Articulation Agreement Signed by College of The Albemarle and Roanoke Bible College

“A win-win opportunity for both RBC and COA” stated Dr. D. Clay Perkins, President of RBC on Thursday, January 11, 2007. On this day, College of The Albemarle and Roanoke Bible College signed an Articulation Agreement which would allow a student to receive training in both Nursing and Biblical Studies. Officials signing the agreement were Mrs. Lynne M. Bunch, COA President, Dr. D. Clay Perkins, RBC President, Ms. Althea Riddick, Vice President of Instruction at COA, and Ms. S. Elizabeth BonDurant, Vice President of Academic Affairs at RBC. Both Dr. Perkins and Mrs. Bunch are very excited about working with each other and agreed that “this is a great partnership opportunity” for both institutions. Others present for the signing were Dr. Kevin Larsen, Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Ms. Debra Dodson, Director of Service Learning, both from RBC and Ms. Ronda Wentz, Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor for the ADN Program and Ms. Robin Harris, ADN Retention Specialist, both from COA. In a four-year program, students can earn an Associate Degree in Nursing from COA, which can lead to licensure as a registered nurse and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biblical Studies from RBC.

The four year course of study will be a rigorous one with an average of 15 to 17 credit hours per semester. The curriculum includes courses of study at both COA and RBC during the freshman year, primarily RBC classes during the sophomore year, and primarily COA classes during the junior and senior years, as well as the summers. Lynne Bunch stated “this program is offering students two high quality programs while maximizing the resources of both institutions and preparing these students for wonderful employment opportunities”.

The purpose of the ADN Program at COA is to prepare students to be licensed as Registered Nurses. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Satisfactory scores on the NCLEX-RN will enable a student to apply for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Due to RBC’s specialized mission, this nursing education takes place in a context in which students are challenged to consider how they might use their training in cross- cultural ministry settings.

Enrollment for this dual course of study begins in the Fall of 2007. For more information, please contact Debra Dodson at Roanoke Bible College at 252-334-2033 or Robin Harris at College of The Albemarle at 252-335-0821, extension 2395.
