Cross-Cultural Missions
LINDA C. JOYNER, M.A.
Professor of Cross-Cultural Studies
Hi, my name is Linda
Joyner. I am professor of Cross-Cultural Studies at Roanoke
Bible College.
I believe that every individual, no
matter their language or culture, should have the opportunity to
hear the Gospel and hear it from one who loves and understands
them.
God's world is a beautiful world - a
world full of deep, meaningful cultures, beautiful languages and
magnificent lands. I am thankful to be able to be a part of
fulfilling God's great plan in sharing His Gospel with the
entire world.
Since 1974, my life has been full of
purpose, satisfaction, victories and rewards. After being a
missionary in Indonesia for 14 years, I joined the faculty at
RBC. My prayer for you is that you will experience the
excitement, the challenge, and the satisfaction in missions
which I have experienced. What a wonderful way to serve God!
Because I believe that Jesus Christ is
the Savior of the world and that mankind is lost without Him, I
am committed to helping you learn and train to be the very best
missionary, motivator for missions, and global Christian that
God desires of you.
E-mail me at
lcj@roanokebible.edu. I would enjoy hearing from you! |

Cross-Cultural Ministry Minor
Students in the Cross-Cultural Ministry minor learn
of the need and opportunity for church planting and church growth in
cross-cultural settings in the United States and abroad. Hands-on
experience is available through cross-cultural internships, including
semester-long and summer programs. The minor can also assist students
with field selection, establishing a financial base, making preparations
for entering their chosen field, and choosing a tent-making mission
work. Graduates may also pursue graduate studies in the field. Students
interested in this option should consult with their advisor and plan to
meet the admissions criteria for the graduate school they plan to
attend.

The best experience we shared, possibly of our whole trip, was the three days and nights we were able to spend in the village of Bunu. The living conditions were primitive. We stayed in a bush house without electricity or running water. The people in the village and the interaction with them made the lack of conveniences seem trivial. Helen very quickly developed a small entourage of village kids that followed her everywhere. We were sharing our experience with Ms. Joyner when we got back to Singapore and she summed it up best when she said, “It’s all about the people.” It really is all about all the people, especially those who don’t know Christ.

I want everyone to know that
this semester trip was an amazing gift from God. Thank you so much for
all of your support financially and in prayer. God showed me and used
me more on this trip than I ever thought possible, but nothing is impossible
with God. He answered all my prayers that I prayed prior to the trip
and during the trip and He truly amazed me. I am very thankful to all
and I want everyone to know that I have no doubts now what God wants
me to do. He wants me to be a cross cultural missionary.

Missionary
to the Muslims
"When I first came to
this city of 1.5 million that is roughly 99% Islamic, I had certain
stereotypes about the people that I would be working with. I
imagined them to be harsh and filled with hate for me and my
religion. However, I spent several months living with an Islamic
family here. I ate like they ate, slept like they slept,
socialized with their friends and neighbors, and built strong
friendships with them. The thing that I learned is that most
Muslims are not like the typical stereotype that we have of them.
We often visualize them as being terrorists and haters of
Christians, but the truth is that they are normal people. They
love each other just like we do. The only problem is that they
have been tragically misled. As I grow closer to these people,
I realize that they desperately need to come into contact with
Jesus. They could be released from their fears and be given
eternal hope - something that is foreign to the religion of Islam.
That's why I'm here. I pray that others would join me in this
endeavor."
