RBC’s Nonprofit Leadership and Administration Program page! These
are exciting times on the campus of Roanoke Bible College. The
non-profit minor creates a host of wonderful opportunities for the
student for full time employment.
Excellence in leadership is one of the critical issues facing
organizations today. Nonprofit organizations rely on Godly and effective leaders to guide
their organizations through the day-to-day challenges.
There is a great demand for men and women, who are trained and committed
to lead organizations onto greater accomplishments for God and mankind.
At Roanoke you’ll receive a strong Biblical foundation with a major
in Bible. Building upon that foundation, you’ll pursue a minor in Nonprofit
Leadership and Administration. These classes comprise the professional studies element of
your education – providing specialized courses to equip you with the basic knowledge
and skills necessary to effectively lead the nonprofit or para-church organization.
As the program advisor and primary instructor, I look forward to helping
you be the best leader possible. I’m excited as I consider the potential within every
student. I’m eager to see what God can accomplish through those willing to submit to
being servant leaders. Remember: Our God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we
ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20)

Program Description
Private Christian schools and colleges, regional food banks, crisis pregnancy centers,
children's homes, homeless shelters--these are just a few examples of the more than
700,000 nonprofit organizations in the United States.
To address a growing need--trained leadership for such outreaches--Roanoke is offering
a new program minor this fall, Nonprofit Leadership and Administration. Students in the
program will complete a four-year Bible major program and study courses to also equip them
with basic skills and knowledge necessary to manage a nonprofit organization.
Course Descriptions
Nonprofit Management introduces the student to strategic
planning, marketing, and resource management.
Foundations for Effective Ministry gives an overview of ethics,
etiquette, family life, managing stress, and other leadership issues.
Nonprofit Development and Fundraising develops within the student
an understanding of charitable fundraising, including strategies for annual fundraising,
capital campaigns and deferred giving.
Servant Leadership introduces the student to the successful model
of servant leadership in a Biblical context. Integrity, humility, vision, and holiness are
some of the characteristics of the servant leader.
Organizational Finance provides the student with the basic
principles of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and assessment of financial
performance.
Organizational Behavior equips the student to evaluate group
culture within an organization. The student will also learn to effectively introduce
change into an organization.
Strategic Management is the capstone course for this minor.
Students integrate knowledge and skills learned in previous courses to demonstrate the
ability to lead a nonprofit organization. Case studies are used extensively.
Alumni Testimonies Insight from the trenches . . .
| After 10 years of youth ministry, 4 years as campus
minister, and the last 7 years in the preaching ministry, I’ve come to realize just
how important the aspect of leadership and administration are for a ministry. I only wish
the classes in nonprofit leadership had been available when I was in school at RBC.
Keeping our leadership and people focused is one of my key
responsibilities. We have to set goals, make plans, and implement those plans. This
requires organizational and administrative skills. Soon, our congregation will be raising
funds for our first building project. I’m confident the class in fundraising would
help me through this challenge.
If an individual is going into ministry, any type of ministry, I would
certainly recommend the classes in the Nonprofit Leadership and Administration minor. The
Church is an organization. It is made up of people with different talents and abilities.
Being able to get all these people working together for a common purpose is a major task
in ministry today.

| These classes in nonprofit leadership are really needed.
In business, whether it is in a church setting or a corporate setting, one must be able to
deal with people on a personal and a professional level. Graduates
leave RBC yearning for their ministry to be a success. The Nonprofit Leadership and
Administration minor provides the graduate with the vital knowledge and skills necessary
to lead an organization. Classes include training in how to initiate change, dealing with
people in a professional manner, developing a servant’s heart, and approaching
financial matters in an effective manner. Each of these are so very practical and will
prove invaluable to the new graduate.

Electives for Preaching Students
If you're interested in the preaching ministry, consider the value of
some of the classes in Nonprofit Leadership and Administration. Churches need leaders
trained in the practical issues of church management. Choosing some of these classes as
electives will help the preaching student gain even more training in management, strategic
planning, financial budgeting/accounting, raising funds for capital campaigns, how to
introduce change in a congregation, and servant leadership.
Congregations are increasingly recognizing the value of administrative
talent in ministers. With some of the classes from the Nonprofit Leadership and
Administration minor, you'll provide many of the skills which congregations are looking
for in their minister.
In some cases it may be possible for the preaching student to complete a
second minor in Nonprofit Leadership and Administration. Such additional training should
prove even more appealing for church employment.
