Preaching
More than just a Sunday sermon.

This motto of the preaching ministry program at Roanoke Bible College is more than just a motto, it is a way of thinking. The life of the preacher and church leader today is much different than a generation ago. The demands are great, but the rewards are greater. To prepare men of God to handle accurately the word of God in the modern culture is a responsibility not taken lightly. We invite you to consider the challenge to "Preach the Word."

Men who have experience in church leadership and are looking for a career change, or men who just want to be more effective leaders in the local church, will benefit this program designed specifically with them in mind.

If I can be of help to you as you consider Roanoke and the church leadership certificate, please do not hesitate to contact me. Contact me at aea@roanokebible.edu or by phone at 252-334-2045.

Student Testimonies

"What does one do when called of God to preach yet does not fit the typical profile of a college student (18 years old, skinny, with acne)? I graduated from Towson State University in 1976, then worked in Parks and Recreation Management for ten years. At age 39 I needed Bible and preaching classes. I needed instruction and training to carry out the great commission. I really didn't need another four-year degree." - Dennis Crehan, Minister, Jarvisburg Church of Christ, Class of 1993

"It was a big decision to leave family, friends, and security and to move nearly 1,000 miles and begin college after being out of high school lfor 31 years. But this was the best decision we ever made. The Lord blessed us with friends here and witha church family. The school work was difficult, but He helped us with that also. The atmosphere at RBC is very conducive to learning and the professors will go out of their way to help in any way they can." - Allen Byers, Minister, Class of 1995

I have wanted to preach since age 9. Now I am finally working toward that as a non traditional student, age 65. R.B.C. is a most loving academic environment. I feel loved, nurtured and challenged by everybody here. I have grown closer to God. I am more accepting and less judgmental of others. I feel more alive because Im here. Jesus is here!
If an older person, wants to grow closer to God, but thinks its too late, they should think again and come to R.B.C. They will grow, grow and then grow some more. Sandy Johnson, current student

Working as a police officer I had the opportunity to see what life was without Christ. I saw all kinds of people: police officers, criminals, rich man and poor man, old and young trying to live without Christ. Some were worldly successful but spiritually dead. I was involved in gang interdiction and saw how they could and would not forgive. When we tried to find why they hated some person or those in another gang they could not remember what started it all.
During that time I was active in the work of our Lords Church. I taught and preached. I worked as a teacher, coordinator for Physical Needs Ministries, and oversaw the tape ministries and served as a Deacon and Elder. I taught classes at the Red Oak Manor in Greenville, a retirement home. I was given the opportunity to preach at churches without a minister.
After retiring from the Greenville Police Department, the Kinston Church of Christ employed me as a minister for 2 years. After Kinston, I moved back to Greenville and worked with the Eastern Pines Church of Christ. I then had the opportunity to attend Roanoke Bile College and started school in 2005 and plan to graduate 2006 with Church Leadership Certificate. In December of 2005 I was asked to preach at Live Oak Grove Christian Church in Beaufort, NC.
Why has it taken me so long to become a full time minister? I dont know, but when Gods time is right He will open the door for us. We need to be willing to go through that door and do the work He has prepared us for. Bob Kepler
